Author Ronald C. White will present a program based on his biography, American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant. As a biographer, White writes from the inside out, seeking to get inside the mind and spirit of this generous, curious, self-effacing, introspective leader. He will offer three episodes from Grant’s life – Civil War, presidency, and the writing of his memoirs in his final illness – that we might understand why in his time Grant was routinely grouped with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in the pantheon of great American leaders.
Ronald C. White is an American historian, award-winning author and lecturer. In addition to his New York Times bestselling Grant biography, White has written three books on Abraham Lincoln, the most recent A. Lincoln: A Biography (also a New York Times bestseller). The author’s op-eds have appeared in New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Christian Science Monitor. He has lectured at the White House and interviewed on the PBS News Hour.
A book signing will be held at the conclusion of the program.
The suggested donation for this program is $5 per person. The event is made possible by a David H. Porter Memorial Grant from the Adirondack Trust Community Foundation.
